Meet the Artist
September Artist of the Month
Catherine was born and raised in Lockport, NY near Niagara Falls and Buffalo, NY. She lived in that area until she moved to Sun City in July of 2015. Catherine always loved drawing and coloring. From the age of 12 to 15 she had the rare opportunity to take weekly art classes with a nun at the local convent, Sr. Mary Julie from whom she learned charcoal and pastels. Catherine finished high School, graduated from Alfred State College, married and raised 3 children. After a couple decades, Catherine again renewed her interest in art, taking Tole painting classes and then oil painting. She and seven other artists opened a local studio/ gallery/ gift shop in an old factory on the Erie Canal where they painted together, displayed and sold their art work, as well as entering shows. After getting settled in Sun City, Catherine joined “The Artist by the Lake.” Her art will be showcased in the glass display case outside the art room at Lakeview Recreation Center. Catherine said, “I hope the people who see my work will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it.” All RCSC Cardholders are welcome to join The Artists by the Lake. The art room is on the upper level and September hours vary but are generally Tuesday through Friday 9am to noon.
